I am glad that someone thought to preserve some of the pictures that used to adorn "Jim's Diner" on Fry Street. They represent an era of friendliness and participation that is no longer present in that neighborhood. It does seem rather superficial, however, to ignore the one person who was a long-time Denton resident, Sheldon Newman, whose face was right up there next to John Wayne's on the mural. Mr. Newman was a Denton businessman as well as an active advocate for fair play for the working man. He probably did more to make Denton a well-rounded community than either the Beatles or Marilyn Monroe.
