The NT men's golf team just missed its ideal start to the season Tuesday at the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic at Lantana. Led by senior Cole Howard, the Mean Green finished one stroke behind the University of Western Kentucky, taking second place. Howard followed up his opening-round score of 70 with a final-round score of 69 to put him in a three-way tie for first place with junior Justin Perry of Western Kentucky and junior Devin Carrey of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. After a five-year dry spell, the NT cheerleaders will head back to Daytona Beach, FL this year for the NCA Nationals. The NT cheerleaders won it all in 2002 but have not competed in the tournament since 2003. This summer, the entire NT cheerleading squad joined other Texas teams for the National Cheerleaders Association summer camp on the Southern Methodist University campus to learn skills and techniques. It's the first day of practice and T.J. Hubbard is on the move. Forced by the rain into the indoor practice facility, Hubbard is wasting no time getting his team ready in his first year as head coach of the Mean Green softball team. He drags two pitching screens and a cart of softballs in position to serve as a makeshift batting cage. (0) comments
