    NT's School of Library and Information Sciences will launch a master's program with two Web institutes in West Virginia, Va., and Georgia beginning fall 2008. Named "top-ranked graduate program" by U.S. News and World Report, this American Library Association approved program has been successful with many NT graduates living in Minnesota, Nevada and Texas cities such as Houston, San Antonio and El Paso.     Breaking News- Fires continue in North Texas

    A brush fire is now under control near Interstate 35 Eariir today fire officials shut down traffic from University Drive to the I-35 east and west split. The fire was reported shortly after 11 a.m. Hay bells that caught on fire started the fire, said officer Brian Horn of the Denton Police Department. (3) comments

    Though Interstate-35 and Highway 380 have been closed because of grass fires, NT will not be shutting down. "The campus does remain open," said Kelley Reese, university spokesperson. "The police and the administrators are monitoring the development of the fires to make sure that our campus community members remain safe. (0) comments

    Liangmei Hu said NT is the farthest she's ever traveled from home in Hefei, China. She joined Bill Buckles and Xiaohui Yuan, of the computer science faculty, from the Hefei University of Technology in China to research terrain models for emergency assessment, using a technology similar to radar called LIDAR, or light detection and ranging.     Research Park opens up cafeteria after setbacks

    The cafeteria at Research Park celebrated its grand opening Thursday with food and Frisbees. The Park Place Market's vendors came out for the event, bringing samples along with them. Vendors included Coca-Cola, Red Bull and Campbell's. Food items were served on Frisbees, general manager Ken Botts said. (0) comments

    Supporters and party members came together to talk politics Saturday at the Denton County Democratic Party's Annual Chili Supper fundraiser and candidate's forum. About 200 Democratic Party members and supporters filled the Denton Visual Arts Center to enjoy chili and hear nine candidates speak about their political plans. (0) comments

    NT Money Management center offers free tax help

    United Way, IRS helped sponsor event site for students

    Tax season is around the corner, and students won't have to look hard for a quick and easy way to do their taxes. The Student Money Management Center is coordinating the university's sponsorship of a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in partnership with the United Way of Denton County and the Internal Revenue Service.     NT's Ron DiIulio has some explanations for the recent swarm of UFO's around Stephenville and said he wants to teach students how not to be fooled. DiIulio, director of astronomy lab programs for NT, was not surprised by the photo taken near Cisco on Jan. 8 by Sean Kiel, a truck driver, who claimed the object "looked like a meteor or a fireball entering the atmosphere.     Fundraiser brings in almost double amount expected

    The bands scheduled for the Arc of Denton benefit concert at the Boiler Room performed until the early hours Saturday. The North Texas Rehabilitation Association organized the event to raise money for an annual trip to Austin that Arc of Denton members make. (0) comments
