    By Kip Mooney Contributing Writer 2007 was one of the best years for film in recent memory, which will make this year's Oscars much harder to call than in years past. That being said, these are my predictions, based on industry insight and Academy trends, as well as my own feelings about how the awards will go. (1) comment

    City of Men cannot compare to original movie

    Despite being floored by the mayhem and craft of "City of God" in 2003, I never would have thought it would inspire a franchise based on the world of crime in the Brazilian favelas, or primitive seaside towns. City of Men is a long running TV series that ran from 2002 to 2005, and further explored teenage life among crime in the city of Morro de Sinuca. (0) comments

    Band is more than just 'Liars'

    On Sunday, experimental rockers No Age and Liars pulverized Hailey's in support of their latest albums. The show was one of the best double bills of the year, offering up two of the most exciting bands in rock under one roof. "I feel really lucky because a lot of the bands we've brought on tour have been great," Liars frontman Angus Andrew said. (0) comments

    Yes, it is a Dallas band. Yes, it uses orchestral instruments in its songs. However, there will be absolutely no comparing Bangarang to the Polyphonic Spree. Guitarist and pianist Jason Ferguson pointed out that even though it has worked closely with Mark Pirro of the psychedelic Dallas band Polyphonic Spree, Bangarang is its own entity. (0) comments

    Bucket boasts clean sound

    The ethereal picking of guitar strings mixed with the sound of fingers on the heads of hand drums called tablas is the listener's first introduction to Mando Saenz's album Bucket. The unconventional sound of the Indian tablas is lost within the first ten seconds to the heavily produced sounds of Nashville country and Saenz's lyrical banter that rhymes "he" with "me" and "I" with "guy.     If a traveler passing through Denton stopped by Denton County Independent Hamburger, he or she might not have a good impression of Denton as a whole. This local hamburger joint has two locations. The one we chose is at 715 Sunset St. and serves food all day. (6) comments
