    NT numbers continue to climb

    Tentative enrollment numbers could cement NT's place as the third-largest undergraduate university in the state, according to Troy Johnson, associate vice president for enrollment management. "[It] remains to be seen until we get the enrollment numbers," Johnson said. (0) comments

    Robots stimulate minds

    Students from more than 27 high schools came to Research Park on Saturday with one thing in mind - robots. NT started its Denton County Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology robotics competition Saturday with its annual Kick Off Day. During the event, the students received supplies, rules of the game, an orientation to DC BEST and an opportunity to observe the game field. (0) comments

    The NT Dallas campus is taking the first steps toward establishing itself as an independent public university. In order to do this, the school needs to reach a certain level of enrollment. Under the requirements of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, when the campus reaches an equivalency of 1,000 full-time students, it can be classified as an individual university.     Denton kicks butts

    The Keep Denton Beautiful street team is gunning for those who toss their cigarette butts on Fry Street. They are armed with pocket ashtrays, bumper stickers and T-shirts. The group kicked off its first Cigarette Litter Prevention Program Aug. 30. The program was designed to reduce the littering of cigarette butts on and around Fry Street. (0) comments

    Lorena Sandoval, 21, a senior from El Paso died Saturday morning from strangulation, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office. Officer Jim Bryan of the Denton police said Sandoval lived with her boyfriend, Sean Kresse, 24, in an apartment on Coronado Drive. (7) comments

    In the wake of 21-year-old NT student Lorena Sandoval's strangulation death last Friday, NT President Gretchen Bataille reminded students that the Counseling and Testing Center is ready to help and can provide grief counseling as well as help with problematic relationships. (0) comments

    Multiple West Nile-infected mosquitoes found in Denton this month triggered an increased risk level in the city, according to a Denton public health official. Denton entered level four of its mosquito surveillance and response plan Sept. 7 after James Kennedy of the biology faculty and his team found positive samplings at two different Denton locations Aug.     Crumbling Lewisville bridge prompts maintenance

    A hole the size of a manhole cover emerged on the bridge of FM 407 in Lewisville last week, leaving debris scattered along Interstate 35E and forcing a lane closure, said Kelli Petra, Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman. The bridge has no structural problems, Petras said, and she believes that maintenance issues were the ultimate cause of the hole. (0) comments
