    Joe Barnhart, retired UNT philosophy professor, was among those shot at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church on July 27. The other victims in the shooting included his brother Jack Barnhart, sister-in-law Betty Barnhart and Joe Barnhart's daughter, Linda Chavez. (1) comment

    UNT computer science junior James Justin Harrell, 20, was found dead in his Mozart Hall dorm room Thursday afternoon. Linda Anderson, secretary for the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, said Harrell was found at 2:05 p.m. The cause of death was asphyxia by smothering. (10) comments

    Fall tuition increase aims to help students

    Money may go to additional financial aid

    Tuition will increase by about 7.9 percent, an extra $247 per student per semester, beginning this fall. The Board of Regents approved President Gretchen Bataille's proposal to raise tuition in February, confirming that the increase will begin this fall, which will change the budget for this school year.     The UNT Board of Regents approved $10 million on July 14 for the College of Business Administrations' Business Leadership Building, along with the $50 million in tuition revenue bonds approved by the Texas Legislature, totaling $60 million for the project. (0) comments

    Yearbook plans to go digital

    The "Aerie" yearbook will no longer be published, but the UNT libraries are working to digitize the yearbooks. "We are going to digitize every yearbook," said Jeremy Moore, lab manager for digital projects unit, "but we haven't decided how recent we will go. (0) comments

    Campus post office changes providers

    The U.S. Postal Service office in the University Union is changing to a new provider, Pitney Bowes. The post office will end its window service at 1 p.m. Aug. 1 and will remain closed for 10 days. Mail will continue to be placed in mailboxes until Aug. 4, and boxes will begin being removed around noon on Aug. (2) comments

    The UNT Dallas Campus will be assisting military families pursuing higher education through the new Stars and Stripes Fund. The Greater Texas Foundation, whose goal is to support initiatives that increase access to higher education in Texas, awarded the Dallas campus money to establish a fund for military spouses, children of military families and soldiers whose GI Bill benefits have expired, or who may have exceeded the benefits or are ineligible for the GI Bill or Texas' Hazelwood Exemption.
