The Student Government Association is starting up its Dallas campus branch this fall.
The group currently has five students who are a part of the organization and are starting the new branch. SGA President Jeff Kline said campus officials are in the process of finding students to take on the role.
"Now that the Dallas campus will become independent around 2010, we want to establish organizations like this now so that we will already have them there," said John Daniels, student activity coordinator at UNT Dallas.
Daniels said they have been working on establishing other programs as well as SGA in the last couple years.
"We already have organizations in place," he said. "Right now is our best opportunity to get SGA established since we are on our own land. We can take advantage of it."
SGA also has programs like the freshman intern program and Eagle's Nest, which expose students to campus activities, provide future grants and give students experience.
"One of our goals is to leave the school better than we found it," Kline said. "We are a leadership committee, and we encourage other students to join and be leaders. That's one of the reasons we have the freshman intern program."
Kline said the SGA is the intermediary between students and administration.
"We listen to students' problems and concerns and voice them in administration meetings and open forums," he said.
