    Comic book heroes: not just child's play

    Comic books aren't just for kids anymore. In fact, Shaun Treat of the communication studies faculty said the genre may have never been kids' stuff in the first place. Treat teaches the new graduate course titled "Mythic Rhetoric of the American Superhero. (1) comment

    The teal-painted front door may read "dentist" in faded print, but Hailey's is a far cry from stiff, cold chairs and elevator music. Right from the entrance, customers are greeted with upbeat music, a comfortable atmosphere and a choice: right or left? To the right, there's a deep red theater drape covered in string lights that leads to the performance stage where numerous bands have played, a dance floor set in motion by a live disc jockey each night, a cove with a small bar and a few pool tables.     Serving mainly sushi and Asian dishes, Uncommon Ground Sushi Café offers students dry sushi for a pricey fee. The Café was not uncommon ground for Phil, but it was for Carrie. They ventured into the spacious restaurant at 1401 West Oak St. and took a seat at a table for two by the door. (5) comments

    Researchers work on safer cookware

    New nonstick coating to be ready in three years

    UNT researchers are developing a new and safer nonstick coating for cookware to replace the current nonstick coating that can potentially emit a carcinogen. The current nonstick coating consists of polymers made with the element fluorine. It is popular because of its nonstick ability and easy cleanup, but there is concern over the use of the nonstick substance. (0) comments

    Jam bands in Denton are a dime a dozen, but Ocean Commotion tries to bring something new to the stage. Pulling influences from Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Mars Volta, the band's 12-minute tracks aim to carry listeners off to another world. (0) comments

    'Mummy' comes off too self-aware, comedy falls flat

    Review :Sequel does previous films diservice

    When I left the theater after seeing "Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," starring Brendan Fraser and Jet Li, I wasn't sure what had just happened to me. All I can say for sure is that Li came back from the dead and killed his career in the process. This film is much like the other "Mummy" films. (1) comment
