    Oso Closo delivers rock opera

    Thundering guitar solos aren't typically theater-appropriate ­- that is, unless it's The Who's 1969 rock opera, "Tommy." When the Dallas Theater Center contacted Denton's Oso Closo to perform in the theater's 50th anniversary season opener, vocalist and guitarist Chris McQueen said his initial reaction was that "it probably wouldn't work for us.     If GZA is remembered for anything, it will be for his work with the Wu-Tang Clan and for his second solo album, Liquid Swords. The skeletal, dark sounds of the now 13-year-old album, produced by RZA, also a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, complement GZA's nasal but serious rhyming. (0) comments

    Katz's Burgers, the '50s-themed diner, was a blast from the past, minus a few poodle skirts and a jukebox. When we walked in, it took a few minutes to figure out if we were supposed to seat ourselves or if we should wait to be seated. We eventually saw the "order here" sign, but we wished that the employees had at least greeted us with a smile at the door and directed us to the ordering area. (0) comments

    Every Labor Day weekend, hundreds of anime fans meet up in Dallas to meet, shop and share their love of pop culture. AnimeFest is an anime convention that has been held in the Dallas area annually since 1993. The convention attracts fans of Japanese animation, comic books, movies, video games and other forms of popular culture with a weekend-long event that includes special guests, video screenings, vendors and forums.
