The Reserve Textbook Initiative Bill cited a lack of "well-defined procedure for granting textbooks" and proposed revising the bylaws concerning the program.
College of Business Sen. Robert Zamora talked about aiming toward using the grant for university core classes to help the greatest amount of students.
"There's no set criteria," Zamora said. "We would want to say that, in order for you to get this money, that you would need to have this many people, and we'll ask them how many semesters that book will be there."
Melissa Ruud McGuire, the student life director at NT and adviser for the SGA, said the group cannot put books in reserve itself, leaving it up to faculty members.
"That's one area where we need to put criteria in the bylaws that states faculty will get this book, and they will go put it on the library reserve and follow the policy that the library has set," McGuire said.
She also talked about taking into consideration how many books classes need. McGuire added that the SGA will honor the applications previously submitted.
Sen. Hunter Nelson of the College of Arts and Sciences said he felt the initiative should not be suspended and opposed the change.
"Obviously, we can't put these into the library, and that might be a problem," Nelson said. "But there are obviously other ways we can go about changing this."
Sen. Will Senn of the College of Information, Library Sciences and Technology presented the Cyclist Safety Awareness Campaign Resolution.
The aim is to "get people, the bikers, aware that there are people walking who can't get out of their way- and also for us as pedestrians to be aware that there are going to be more alternative transportation," Senn said.
College of Education Sen. Britney NeSmith said she supported the resolution as a pedestrian. While Honors College Sen. Rhiannon Smith said she also supported the resolution "as a biker who accidentally ran over someone today."
In other business, the SGA passed an election calendar change bill and tabled a bill calling for a Senate appointment application.
The Appointment Application Bill was tabled until the second full meeting in the Spring 2009 semester.
