Visions of sugarplums are beginning to dance in NT students heads as the holidays approach. So are movies and music. Here are the top five Christmas movies and songs of all time.
Movies
1. Home Alone (1990)
Macaulay Culkin is left to fend for himself when his parents forget him for their Christmas vacation. Culkin turns his home into a labyrinth of booby traps to protect himself against The Wet Bandits (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern).
2. A Christmas Story (1983)
The Christmas classic about young Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley) doing everything he can to persuade his parents, teachers, elves and Santa Claus that he should get a Red Ryder BB gun, but everyone tells him that he will shoot his eye out.
3. The Santa Clause (1994)
Disney's and Tim Allen's spin on how one becomes Saint Nick. After reading "The Night Before Christmas" to his son, Charlie (Eric Lloyd), Scott Calvin (Allen) accidentally kills Santa Claus and becomes him for the night. What Scott doesn't know is that he is now Santa for life.
4. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
The Muppets take on Charles Dickens' novel of the same name. The Great Gonzo is the narrator, along with extra commentary from his friend, Rizzo the Rat. Gonzo details Ebenezer Scrooge's (Michael Caine) journey with three ghosts and finally embraces the spirit of Christmas.
5. Miracle on 34th Street (the original 1947)
The timeless tale of how Santa Claus truly does exist. After complaining about an inebriated Santa in the Macy's Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) becomes Macy's new Santa. After watching Kringle at work, a young girl named Susan (Natalie Wood) asks him if he is the real Santa. Kringle says yes and Susan believes him. Kringle eventually ends up in a mental institution, and a young lawyer fights to free Kringle.
Songs

A slow but calming song about the birth of Jesus Christ. Originally written by a German composer.

4. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)
