35Denton: Biographies blasts Sweetwater crowd with punk sound

The Denton-based band of five guys and one girl went on at 9:30 at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern and delivered a taste of their punk rock flare with infused spoken word in front of a full crowd.
The lead singer forcefully strummed his guitar, with emphasis on the heavy sound, and yelled over the instruments with passionate lyrics like, “Because we all know that we were born for greater things.” The keyboardist adds to the vocals with her sparsely interjected harmony that gave the songs even more soul.
The band managed to maintain an upbeat and positive vibe with the crowd, even in their more serious and darker songs with lyrics like, “Is that the best you’ve got? I could have done better in my sleep,” and every member of the band yelled the lyrics.
Not only were the lyrics and music engaging but also the band’s theatrics. They grabbed the audience’s interest as the bassist set his bass aside to pound on the single lit drum in front of him, as gold confetti flew off the drum and into the crowd.
Besides the use of female vocals, Biographies can be closely related to the punk-esque band Brand New with their heavy drums, interjections of pre-recorded voices and soft fadeouts followed by climactic buildups.
Though the crowd started off bigger than it finished, the band attracted outsiders looking in and a strong, positive and pleased crowd screaming for an encore at the end of their set, to which they didn’t disappoint.
Once Biographies finished their encore song, they announced the release of their new album, scheduled to be available for purchase on March 30, leaving the crowd to unanimously cheer them into a successful departure.
