Take a look at the crime map below prepared for a quick glance at UNT campus crime. Many crimes are located in parkings lots, and that’s because narcotics cases occur there.

Vehicles can be used as spaces to store or consume drugs, UNT police said. Cases in Lot 55 and Lot 50 usually have to do with spillover from Fry Street patrons.

Since Nov. 1, there have been 13 public urination/defecation cases. Four of which occurred in Lot 50 and five other cases were in Lot 55. UNT police made 11 arrests for possession of marijuana and issued nine citations for the possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the online crime log (posted below).

“An increase in arrests just means there is an increase in enforcement,” UNT police chief Ed Reynolds said.

The department hired a special investigator for narcotics, Reynolds said. This month there have been two arrests for possession of opiate/cocaine and two arrests for synthetic narcotics.

“All drugs are bad,” Reynolds said. “But there are some that can cause greater problems.”

While on patrol, police may notice a person ducking behind a car, prompting them to investigate further. During traffic stops, police may see drugs in the car, smell them or notice the person seems under the influence.
