Jazz vocalist and conductor Bobby McFerrin visited and shared his knowledge with UNT’s Jazz Studies students this week as a part of the Fine Arts Series.
McFerrin, who is most known for his hit song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” will perform a sold out show at 8 p.m. tonight at the Murchison Performing Arts Center. As part of the Gomez Residency Artist program, students had the opportunity to attend Q&A, lecture, improvisational games and duet sessions with McFerrin throughout the week.
The vocalist also rehearsed with the One O’clock Lab Band on Monday and Wednesday for the performance.
During Tuesday’s lecture series, eight Jazz Studies majors got the chance to test their improvisation skills and performed alongside McFerrin in Voertman Hall. Among the performers were Jazz Vocal Performance seniors Hale Baskin and Tahira Clayton and Jazz Studies senior Connor Kent.
