Brief: final game of Baylor Invitational called off due to weather

The Baylor Invitational came to an abrupt end Sunday afternoon due to rainy conditions. The Mean Green softball team was up 2-0 against Abilene Christian University in the bottom of the third when the game was officially cancelled.
Softball games cannot officially be ruled final by the NCAA unless they have reached the fifth inning. There are no current plans to resume the game at a later date.
After three straight outs to start the first inning, the top of the Mean Green order hit three straight singles in the bottom half to go up 1-0 early. Sophomore utility player Mallory Land hit a two-out RBI double to right center field later in the inning to extend the lead to two.
The Mean Green was off to another hot start in the bottom of the third with runners on first and third and no outs before the umpires collectively decided to cancel the game. Junior utility player Taylor Schoblocher was hit by a pitch to begin the inning, then proceeded to steal second base and advanced to third on a single by senior first baseman Dani Hoff.
Freshman pitcher Monique Garcia was perfect through three innings, not allowing a base runner.
North Texas went 2-2 in the Baylor Invitational, including a defeat over No. 7 Baylor University, the highest ranked opponent North Texas has beaten in school history. The Mean Green are now 5-9 on the season.
The Mean Green will play a five-game set at the Tulsa Invitational next weekend in Oklahoma. The first game against the University of Northern Iowa will begin on Friday at 10 a.m, followed by a matchup with Creighton University at 12:15 p.m.
