The Mean Green women’s basketball team has hired former player Jalie Mitchell as its new head coach. A press conference officially announcing the hire will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Apogee Stadium.

Mitchell played for the Mean Green from 1998-2002 and is the program’s all time leading scorer. The Duncanville native spent the past three years as an assistant at the University of Texas under former North Texas coach Karen Aston. Mitchell was also an assistant under Aston at UNT during the 2011-2012 season.

The program is coming off a 5-24 season and mutually parted ways with former head coach Mike Petersen in March.

Check back tomorrow for a full story on the hiring of Mitchell with quotes from the press conference.
