After getting swept Monday by the University of Texas, the Mean Green softball team responded with a 4-3 win over Oklahoma State University Tuesday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.

After senior starting pitcher Ashley Kirk allowed two runs in the second inning, one of them being an inside-the-park home run, the team held OSU to only one more run the rest of the game and eight total hits.

The Mean Green (17-7, 3-0) offense came alive in the fourth inning after junior outfielder Kat Strunk hit a two-run homer to put the Mean Green up 3-2. However, Oklahoma State (15-9) would tie the game up after an off-target pitch by Kirk that went past sophomore catcher Bryana Wade and allowed the tying run to come in.

At the bottom of the seventh inning, senior infielder Jordan Terry took advantage of an error by Oklahoma State third baseman Tiffany Mikkelson, who overthrew to first base and gave Terry the time to run from second base to home and seal the win.

Senior outfielder Jackie Miller went 2-for-3 on at-bats and sophomore utility player Taylor Schoblocher added a hit, a score and an RBI. Kirk pitched a complete game, finishing with eight hits allowed and three earned runs, and recorded her 50th career win to put her season record at 11-3.

The Mean Green will be off until Saturday, when the team plays the University of Texas at San Antonio in a Conference USA match-up at 1 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium.
