The Mean Green softball team continued the ASU Littlewood classic on Saturday with another doubleheader. North Texas dropped the first game 5-2 to the No. 15 University of Washington, but bounced back with a 14-4 win over Boston University.
University of Washington
After a scoreless first inning, the Mean Green drew first blood against Washington in the top of the second when senior outfielder Kat Strunk hit a two run homerun.
Washington eventually battled back to tie the game, and then take a 5-2 to lead in the bottom of the fifth. That was all Washington would need to close out the Mean Green.
Boston University
After disappearing down the stretch offensively in its first game, the Mean Green had an offensive outburst in its 14-4 win over Boston University.
Sophomore utility player Mallory Land kicked things off early in the top of the first inning when she stole second, which lead to a run by sophomore infielder Kelli Schkade. Strunk also hit a single to contribute to an early 2-0 lead in at the top of the first.
After the Terriers responded with a run of their own, junior utility player Taylor Schoblocher sent one deep for a two run blast and a 4-1 lead.
The fourth inning was the dagger for the Mean Green. After accumulating four runs through three innings, the Mean Green scored nine runs in the fourth inning alone and built a 14-1 lead.
Junior utility player Spencer Ferrell put the cherry on top with a run in the fifth inning to give the Mean Green a 14-4 win, which snapped a five game losing streak.
The Mean Green conclude the ASU Littlewood classic tomorrow with a rematch against Washington at noon.
