Brief: Mean Green track and field compete at annual Texas Relays in Austin

The Mean Green track and field team performed well in the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, which was held at the University of Texas from Thursday to Saturday.
Thursday
One of the best performances was by sophomore distance runner Charlotte Wilson, who placed third in the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase. It not only was the best finish for the Mean Green the entire weekend, but her time of 10:24.53 was a 10-second improvement from last year.
On the men’s side of the 3,000 meter steeplechase, sophomore distance runner James Coleman placed seventh with a time of 9:14.48. In eighth place in the same event, junior distance runner Alejandro Valencia finished right behind Coleman with a time of 9:14.89.
In the women’s 400 meter hurdles, junior hurdler Chastity Stewart placed tenth with a time of 1:00.04, one finish shy of qualifying and advancing.
Sophomore distance runner Shauna Pali had a personal-best time in the women’s 5,000 meter run with 18:30.67, placing her at 17th place. On the men’s side, sophomore distance runner Silvester Harrison also placed 17th with a time of 15:15.83.
Friday
Freshman jumper Elisha Peters had the best performance of the day with a third-place finish in the high jump. Her 1.75 meter jump was her season-high and it tied for best finish at the Texas Relays for North Texas.
Saturday
In the last day of the competition, the men’s relay team competed in the 4×200 meter relay competition and finished in ninth place, with a final time of 1:25.60. The Mean Green women’s team placed 11th in the same race, finishing with a time of 1:37.17.
The Mean Green track and field team will now prepare to host and compete in the North Texas Invitational in Denton April 5.
