Men’s basketball, DeAndre Harris part ways

Redshirt junior guard DeAndre Harris is no longer part of the North Texas men’s basketball program, per a statement from head coach Tony Benford.
“DeAndre Harris is no longer with our program,” Benford said in the statement. “After meeting with him and his family, we have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of all involved to part ways. We wish DeAndre the best of luck in all of his future endeavors.”
Harris did not play in the second half in the Mean Green’s last game against Troy University after playing four minutes in the first half, failing to score and turning the ball over once. After the game, Benford said an assistant coach told Harris to stay in the locker room during halftime, but he chose not to elaborate on the specifics of the incident.
“You want guys that are committed to the team,” Benford said after the game.
Harris averaged 7.1 points and 2.5 rebounds in 31 career games with the Mean Green, including four starts last season. He was suspended last season after picking up two technical fouls during a Jan. 15 game against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Harris also was ejected from a Jan. 2 game against the University of Texas at El Paso for a flagrant 2 foul for excessive and extreme contact.
