Brief: softball beats Tulsa at home

The Mean Green softball team beat the University of Tulsa 4-2 at home on Monday. The win is North Texas’ third straight.

North Texas (11-14) struck first, and built a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Tulsa (16-9) scored a run to make it 2-1 in the second inning, but the Mean Green added two more runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 4-1. Tulsa added another run in the fourth inning, but couldn’t mount a full comeback.

Sophomore utility player Mallory Land led the charge with two hits and 3 RBI. Sophomore pitcher Stacey Underwood pitched five and allowed two runs on six hits, while sophomore pitcher Kenzie Grimes pitched the final two innings of the game to earn her second straight save.

The Mean Green will head to Miami, Florida for a three-game weekend series with Florida International University. The series will start with a doubleheader on Saturday, with game one beginning at noon, and game two beginning at 2 p.m.
