The Mean Green softball team suffered a 5-1 road loss to the University of Texas – Arlington on Wednesday evening. The loss extends North Texas’ losing streak to five.
The Mean Green (14-19) fell behind early, as UTA (22-15) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. The game stayed at 1-0 until the top of the fourth inning, when senior outfielder Kat Strunk scored on an UTA error to tie the game at 1-1.
But, in the bottom of the fourth, UTA scored four runs off sophomore pitcher Stacey Underwood to make it a 5-1 game. Neither team scored again, and that was all UTA needed to down North Texas.
Underwood pitched 4.0 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits, while sophomore pitcher Kenzie Grimes pitched the last two innings and allowed three hits, but no runs. The Mean Green offense combined for five hits.
North Texas will look to get back in the win column this weekend when it travels on the road to play Marshall University for a three game series. The first two games will be Friday at noon and 2 p.m.
