Brief: UNT defeats Canadian team in friendly match

The Mean Green soccer team stormed to a 6-0 victory in its Panda Cup International friendly match Tuesday night against Chinook Sevilla U18 – an amateur team from Calgary, Canada.
After a slow start, the Mean Green was able to dominate the match. The teams played two 40-minute halves, with both teams using unlimited substitutions.
First half action:
16:06 – Sophomore midfielder Leah Cox scored the opening goal after a scramble in the Chinook penalty box.
13:03 – After a goalkeeper error, junior defender Kelsey Hodges looped a ball into the net from close range.
Second half action:
31:41 – Hodges scored from more than 25 yards from goal. Hodges controlled the ball and fired a shot into the upper right corner.
27:50 – Freshman midfielder Karla Pineda hammered the ball home after a mix-up from the Canadian goalkeeper.
24:51 – Hodges sent in a free kick that the Chinook goalkeeper mishandled. The goalkeeper then fouled a Mean Green player in the penalty area. Freshman freshman Amber Haggerty scored on the subsequent penalty with a low, hard shot the left post.
21:20 – Freshman midfielder Lindsey Hulstein scored on strong header off a corner kick.
