Brief: UNT falls in C-USA championship game

The Mean Green soccer team was shut out 3-0 by Colorado College in the Conference USA tournament championship game on Sunday in a game that will likely finish the season for the Mean Green.
Colorado College (15-4-2, 8-1-1) struck three minutes into the game with a goal from junior midfielder Jessie Ayers. Two more early goals in the tenth and 22nd minutes extended the team’s lead to 3-0 – all the Tigers would need to hold on for the win over UNT (14-8-1, 6-4-1).
The Mean Green had chances late in the game but was unable to mount a comeback. The team was outshot 20-13 and fell behind 11-5 for shots on goal.
In the Mean Green’s first season in C-USA, the team finished second overall in the regular season and in the C-USA tournament. It is possible that the team could be selected into the NCAA Tournament, but the team lacks an automatic bid that winning the tournament would have provided.
