Set as a two extra games between two preseason tournaments, the Mean Green made a stop in San Antonio, Texas to take on future Conference USA opponent the University of Texas-San Antonio (6-4) in a double header.

All night, the Mean Green failed to produce a single run in either game, falling 7-0 and 2-0.

In game one, the UNT (4-7) offense was shut out for the second time in the last five days as the Roadrunners ran away with the game.

Of the 10 UTSA batters to step to the plate, seven came up with at least one hit in the game.

Senior pitcher Brittany Simmons started and ended the game for the Mean Green as head coach T.J. Hubbard decided to keep her in despite her struggles.

In six innings, Simmons gave up 10 hits, seven earned runs, hit four UTSA batters and recorded a single strikeout.

In game two, UNT sent junior pitcher Laure Poole to the mound in search for a spark to ignite the offense.

Like the previous game, the Mean Green struggled to get anything going in the early innings. Only this time, the Roadrunners struggled as well.

It was not until the fifth inning that either team was able to put the first run on the board. It came on the form of a two run single by UTSA catcher Megan Low.

The score would stay at 2-0 as UNT took its sixth loss in seven games.

In the loss, Poole threw a complete game, allowing six hits. Both of the Roadrunners runs were unearned.

Hubbard and the players could not be reached for comment.

Texas Shootout

Next, UNT heads to San Marcos, Texas to take part in the Texas Shootout. All of the schools taking part are Division I level Texas schools.

In a span of three days, the Mean Green will face host team Texas State University, Texas Tech University, Baylor University, and rival University of Texas-Arlington.

The first game of the event is tonight at 5 p.m. against Texas State. The probable starter for UNT is junior Ashley Kirk.
