It took two overtimes, but the Mean Green soccer team advanced to the Conference USA Tournament finals with a 1-0 victory over the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Friday.
Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Hulstein played hero as she got her foot on senior defender Tori Adame’s corner kick and sent it into the goal. It was only her third career goal and second this season.
“Give Charlotte a lot of credit,” UNT head coach John Hedlund said in a press release. “They played really well defensively tonight, and their goalkeeper played outstanding. It finally took a great goal from Lindsey off a corner from Tori for us to advance to the C-USA finals.”
The Mean Green beat FIU 4-1 in the semifinals on Wednesday. The team now advanced to the tournament finals tomorrow in Houston at Rice University, where it will face Colorado College. The team nearly came back against Colorado earlier in the year in a 3-2 loss.
