Brief: volleyball clinches spot in C-USA tournament

The Mean Green volleyball downed the University of Alabama – Birmingham in straight sets (25-13, 25-18, 25) on Sunday afternoon for its fifth straight win and a spot in the Conference USA volleyball tournament.
North Texas (17-9, 8-5) won the first two sets in convincing fashion, but was pushed in the third set. The Mean Green only held a 17-15 lead at one point, but outscored UAB 8-6 for the rest of the set.
Junior outside hitter Carnae Dillard led the way with 15 kills and 10 digs, will senior outside hitter Hanna Forst added 10 digs. Sophomore setter Amy Henard had 30 assists.
The Mean Green is currently fifth in the C-USA standings with the win, and will be play playing for the best seed possible for the rest of the way. The team will play the University of Rice on the road Friday. The match is set to start at 6 p.m.
