The Mean Green men’s and women’s golf team dealt with wet weather conditions this weekend, just days after the hail storm that came through Denton on Thursday.

Aggie Invitational – Men

The weather conditions over the weekend contributed to the Mean Green men’s golf team 11th-place finish out of 12 teams at the Aggie Invitational in College Station on Sunday.

With a weather delay due to wet conditions and water standing on the greens, UNT never regained composure. Freshman Cory Churchman was the only player to break 80 with a round of 79 on the final day. He finished tied for 48th overall.

Junior Jason Roets had the best finish for UNT with a final round 82 to tie for 37th overall. Scores across the board remained high, as none of the 12 teams shot below 300 as a team in the final round.

The Mean Green will now prepare to head to Edmond, Okla., April 27 to 29 for the Conference USA Tournament.

SMU Invitational – Women

With 36 holes down and 18 to go, the Mean Green women’s golf team remained in last place out of 16 teams after the final round of the SMU Invitational Sunday in Dallas was canceled due to heavy rain.

UNT played through the wet and cold conditions to shoot two rounds of 321 each as a team. Freshman Eji Kwon carded the lowest score of the day and event for the Mean Green with a 6-over par 78 and finished tied for 54th overall. The weather conditions affected Kwon the least, as she had four birdies on her card.

Senior Chaslyn Chrismer and sophomore Laura DeLeonardis both finished tied for 64th overall with seven other players. Chrismer carded a second round 82 and DeLeonardis had the second best round behind Kwon with a 79.

Senior Taylor Kilponen finished one shot behind the two and finished at 73rd overall.

The women have a couple of weeks to practice before the C-USA Tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala., April 21 to 23.
