Brief: women’s basketball gets first win of season

The Mean Green women’s basketball team earned its first win of the season Sunday by beating the University of Missouri – Kansas City 65-47 on the road.
The game was close early on, but North Texas (1-6) used a balanced scoring attack to help build a 33-22 halftime lead. In that first half, the Mean Green shot 43.3 percent from the field and forced 15 UMKC turnovers.
It was more of the same in the second half, as the Mean Green went on a 15-5 within the first eight minutes to extend the lead to 48-27. The Mean Green never let up and ended up extending the final score to 65-47.
Next up, the Mean Green will be on the road again on Wednesday to take on the University of San Francisco. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m.
