The Mean Green women’s basketball team fell short in a 75-69 loss against the University of Northern Colorado on Monday, despite junior guard Janis Peterson’s career-high 27 points in her first career start.

UNT (4-5) picked up the overall defense after halftime, holding the Bears (5-3) to 36 percent shooting in the second half after 64 percent in the first.

UNT held a one-point lead with 2:22 remaining in the game, but the Bears finished the game with seven straight points. Peterson contributed six steals and four rebounds as well, while senior forward Ash’Lynne Evans scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Mean Green struggled to contain UNC junior center Stephanie Lee, who scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Sophomore guard Jamie Derrieux scored the most points among the UNC guards with 17.

The Mean Green will have to make adjustments when it travels to the Mile-High City on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to face the University of Denver (1-8).
