The Mean Green women’s basketball team fell 61-59 to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers on Saturday evening, opening conference play with two straight road losses.
In the first half of the game, the Mean Green (6-9, 0-2) struggled to make crucial shots. At halftime, Charlotte (8-7) had a 32-22 lead over UNT.
The 49ers extended its lead to 16 points early in the second half, but from there the Mean Green would go on a 25-5 run and take a 46-45 lead on a three-point shot by junior forward Breisha Wynn. In a back and forth game, the Mean Green had one last possession to potentially win the game, down one point.
Freshman guard Candice Adams drove into the paint and put up a floater that missed. Wynn led UNT in scoring with 16 points and sophomore forward Acheil Tac had six points in her return from a knee injury.
The Mean Green faces the Marshall University Thundering Herd (7-8, 0-2) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Super Pit, with both teams still looking for their first conference win.
