By Tim Monzingo / Senior Staff Writer –
The campus at Brookhaven College was locked down from just after noon until 1 p.m. today as authorities looked for a student who claimed he or she intended to commit suicide, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The campus reopened around 1 p.m.
Oifficials were alerted after several calls were made by an unidentified person claiming to be a student, who said they were planning to commit suicide, the article reported.
Officers at Brookhaven’s police department could not be reached for comment.
Through Twitter, text messages and e-mails, people on campus were told to stay inside and behind locked doors, the article said.
The event comes six days after the University of Texas campus at Austin was closed after Joshua Tooley, a student at the university, committed suicide in the Perry-Casteneda Library.
There is no indication that the events are related.
About 10,000 full and part-time students attend the college, the Dallas Morning News reported.
