As Lil’ Wayne said in the “Lollipop Remix” – “safe sex is great sex, better wear a latex,
’cause you don’t want that late text, that ‘I think I’m late’ text.”

A number of student organizations held the Condom Carnival in front of the Union Thursday, including The Conversation, a peer education group; Atheists, Agnostics and Others; Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance; and the Gay and Lesbian Association of Denton.

“They’re all here to help out, promote their club and also kind of raise some awareness about National Condom Day and sex positivity,” said Tanya Nanonghkhai, pre-biology junior and president of The Conversation.

Nanongkhai said that along with Feb. 14 being Valentine’s Day, it is also National Condom Day. She said that students can become members of the Condom Club by watching a mock demonstration of a condom being put on a penis.

“You get a safer sex packet,” Nanongkhai said. “It comes with four condoms and a packet of lube.”

Once a student becomes a member of the Condom Club, they can go to the Student Health and Wellness Center once a week and get the packet, Nanongkhai said.

John Garrish, a graduate student for the Meadows Center for Health Resources, said that a lot of students utilize the Condom Club.

“Typically, we don’t keep track,” he said.

Garrish said that they just try and provide a helpful service to students. Aside from overseeing The Conversation, Garrish is involved with a weekly men’s health program in which they discuss issues that he said rarely get noticed.

Throughout the afternoon the carnival got a good number of traffic from passers-by.

Anthropology sophomore Cory Baker said said he had walked out of class when he saw the carnival.

He said he just wanted to check out the scene because the crowd interested him, but he didn’t learn much.

“I’m 24,” he said. “I’m pretty experienced.”
