A condom carnival promoting sex education and sex positivity took place in the Library Mall today.

The carnival used its own versions of various carnival games to discuss important topics relating to protected sex and STI prevention.

The games included parodies of Skee Ball and pin the tail on the donkey, which presented information on various topics relating to sex. There were many trivia games as well relating to fetishes and body knowledge.

With each game played, the participants received tickets. These tickets would be exchanged for prizes at the front of the carnival. True to the carnival’s name, the most common prize was condoms. Also available were internal condoms, bat rings and string bags. Condoms were worth one ticket each, while larger prizes were worth more.

“Texas is really abstinence only education, so students often come to college unprepared for sex,” said Tanya Nanongkhai, the self-proclaimed “condom commander of the condom committee.”

The goal of the condom carnival is to make sure that students are better informed to make decisions about their bodies, Nanongkhai said.

Nanongkhai wanted to host the condom carnival so that students could have a friendly environment to discuss topics relating to sex.

“I want a more fun atmosphere for people to enjoy themselves,” Nanongkhai said.

English freshman Lindsey Sageser found the event very enjoyable and informative.

“It’s good to promote sexual health and taking care of yourself,” Sageser said.

Also at the event was P.J. Moton, the team leader of United Black Ellument, who was handing out sex education pamphlets, as well as free condoms and packets of lubricant.

United Black Ellument is a community program that provides support for young, black gay and bisexual men, Moton said.
