Dan McCarney: Student body was “loud, inspiring and intimidating”
Head football coach Dan McCarney wrote a guest column thanking the student body for its support in Tuesday night’s 30-23 win over the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. The following is his letter to the students.
On Tuesday night, America got to see why North Texas has the best student body in the state of Texas, and I want to take a second to thank each and every one of you for your efforts in helping us pick up a win over a tough Louisiana team.
You guys were loud, inspiring and intimidating. In short, you were amazing!
My football team responded to your energy throughout the game, because the power coming out of the student side was nothing short of overwhelming. Most importantly, you guys didn’t waver. Everyone stuck around and watched the Mean Green make plays in the clutch and deliver this great school a hard-fought victory.
Slowly but surely, we are building something really special here at North Texas. On the field, our players and coaches are doing everything we can to make the Mean Green a force on the national scene, and it gives us great confidence to know that you guys are on our side going into each game.
Tuesday’s game was broadcast to a national audience on ESPN2, and I think this university did itself proud all around. We showcased one of the nation’s scrappiest teams playing in college football’s nicest facility and one of the loudest student sections going.
This team is getting better each week, and we have two more home games that we need you at. We take on Arkansas State for Homecoming on Nov. 3, followed by our final Sun Belt Conference home game against South Alabama on Nov. 10.
My words are just the tip of the iceberg for what your enthusiasm does for this team each week. Thanks again for helping to make this season so much fun!
Go Mean Green!
Dan McCarney
