Dean named for UNT-TCU medical school
Staff Reports
The dean of the University of Arizona College of Medicine at Phoenix will be the founding dean of the new medical school being set up by UNT Health Science Center and Texas Christian University, according to a UNT news release.
Dr. Stuart Flynn will begin as dean of the new M.D. program in April. University officials cite Flynn’s experience in Arizona, where he grew the program from a class of 24 to 80 students, the news release said.
Flynn’s medical degree and residency training came from the University of Michigan. He did his fellowship in oncologic pathology at Stanford University, and was a professor at the Yale University School of Medicine before becoming dean in Phoenix, according to the news release.
“Dr. Flynn’s leadership style will fit seamlessly into the values-based culture we are building at the Health Science Center,” UNTHSC president Michael Williams said on the news release. “His vision for the future of medical education will create more adaptive, high-quality physicians prepared to meet the changing health care needs of Texas.”
UNTHSC already has a medical school, but for osteopathic medicine, not for medical doctors. The school has partnered with TCU to start the program, to be located at the UNTHSC campus in Fort Worth.
