Denton County under mandatory burn ban

Denton County is now under a mandatory burn ban, which went into effect at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, due to severe drought conditions and the potential threat of more wildfires.
Denton County, which has already had several grass fires this January, is also under a fire watch for Wednesday due to dry conditions.
This burn ban, by executive order of Denton County Judge Mary Horn, restricts all outdoor cooking and puts limits on outdoor metalwork such as welding, cutting and grinding. Specifics of the burn ban and the executive order can be accessed here.
“Prevention of potential wildfires is essential to the safety of county residents,” Horn told NBC5. “Wildfires can be devastating and difficult on everyone, especially farmers and ranchers. Wildfires can destroy not only lives and property, but livelihood as well. With everyone’s help we can make our communities a safer place to live and enjoy life.”
Knowingly or intentionally violating the burn ban is a class C misdemeanor, which is punishable by a fine of up to $500.
