Brief: Early run by Louisiana Tech drops Mean Green women’s basketball

After the Mean Green women’s basketball team held a 9-0 lead early, the Louisiana Tech University Lady Techsters went on a 25-3 run and didn’t allow UNT to get back into the game again.
Poor shooting caused UNT’s (12-16, 6-9) 67-54 loss in the Super Pit Saturday afternoon, as the Techsters shot more efficiently in all aspects. After Tech’s run, UNT never got closer than six points.
Taking control early seems to be the key to winning for UNT, as the team is now 0-13 when trailing at the half. Facing a 37-29 deficit at halftime, the Mean Green allowed Tech to extend its lead to 17 in the second half, all but eliminating its chances of coming back.
Junior guard Janis Peterson led the team with 16 points. Senior guard Laura McCoy’s total career three-pointers mark reached 160 in the game. She is second all-time behind Ashley Norris’ 197.
The Mean Green will host the University of Southern Mississippi at 7 p.m. March 5 at the Super Pit, in what will be the regular season finale.
