Eric Johnson indicted for murder
Staff Reports
The man who allegedly shot and killed Sara Mutschlechner was indicted for murder last week by a Denton County grand jury.
Eric Johnson, 20, was the only person arrested in connection with the New Year’s day shooting that caused Mutschlechner to die. Denton police said Johnson admitted he fired a handgun at Mutschlechner’s car. One bullet hit Mutschlechner in the head while she was driving, causing her to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a light pole.
Johnson, a former Marine, was driving his mother’s car after leaving a party — the same one Mutschlechner attended — when he pulled up next to the 20-year-old sorority sister’s car while driving on Elm Street. The people in Johnson’s car, police said, were shouting at Mutschlechner and her passengers. The situation escalated, and Denton police allege Johnson shot two rounds at her car before speeding away. He was later arrested in Yuma, Arizona, by U.S. Marshals. He was brought back to Denton Jan. 21.
