Foodsnobs: Pie Five a strong pizza competitor

Watch out, Crooked Crust: a new challenger has emerged for your “best pizza near UNT” title, and this Fry Street block restaurant calls itself Pie Five.
With a modern red and black interior, Pie Five gives UNT students the option of a chill environment in between classes.
Dentonites will definitely dig the vibe but maybe not the prices, as Pie Five charges customers $9.20 for a meal consisting of a 10-inch personal pizza, a side salad and a beverage.
Pie Five offers hungry guests eight specialty pizzas, with toppings ranging from every meat known to man to full-force vegetarian.
If none of the specialties seem like attention grabbers, this pizza shack also offers a Subway style “build it yourself” meal offering four different kinds of crust, seven options for sauce, four choices of cheese, and 21 different meats and vegetables.
Specialty and build-your-own pizzas are both priced at $6.49, but if they choose the latter, customers can pile on topping after topping with no limit.
The classic pan crust pizza with mozzarella cheese, Tuscan marinara, sausage, banana peppers and mushrooms incorporated just the right amount of every ingredient. The sauce was savory and crust crumbly, and the flavors complimented each other exquisitely.
The restaurant also offers fresh meal-sized salads like their Caesar salad with romaine lettuce, Caesar dressing, Parmesan cheese and croutons.
Another option for salad lovers is their chef salad with iceberg, sliced carrots, hard-boiled eggs, chicken, ham, tomatoes and cheddar cheese topped in Ranch dressing. Each salad is $6.49.
Each salad can also be downsized as a side option for meals.
Cookie pies are also available for dessert, with multiple flavors that change daily like chocolate chip and snickerdoodle. These scrumptious sweets are $1.49 for a slice and $9.99 for an entire pie.
Pie Five has also applied for a liquor license, but has not received it as of press time, so beer and wine fans will have to be patient.
Overall, pizza lovers at UNT should rejoice as Pie Five gives them another, perhaps superior, option when trying to grab a quick bite in between classes.
