Rickey Brice Jr., who spent the last two seasons with the North Texas men’s basketball team, has transferred to Texas A&M University-Commerce, a source close to the team confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Because TAMU-Commerce is a Division II school, Brice will be eligible to play immediately this season. He joins former North Texas video coordinator Josip Maric, who left the Mean Green in June to take a job as assistant coach with the Lions.

Brice averaged 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last season and started 11 games as a sophomore for the Mean Green under coach Tony Benford. Brice was a three-star recruit out of Pantego Christian Academy according to 247Sports.com, and chose North Texas over offers from Oklahoma State, Saint Louis, Temple and UCLA. But he struggled to find a full-time spot in the starting lineup under Benford.

Brice announced his decision to transfer out of the program in April shortly after Grant McCasland was hired, and he was later arrested in May on a charge of marijuana possession weighing less than two ounces. Brown is the fourth player from last season’s team to end up on a new roster in the months leading up to the season.
