The renovation and expansion of the Golden Triangle Mall has been a long process, but has produced successful results so far.

The location began the first phase of redevelopment in August 2012 after being bought out by GTM Development in November 2011.

The mall has opened new stores like Buckle and Body Central and three food options – Italia Express, Smoothies Paradise and Tobu Teriyaki Grill – in the recently added food court.

The new stores have already brought in more customers.

“We had our opening on a Friday,” Body Works assistant manager Schonda Elackshire said. “It was crazy. A lot of people were saying, ‘it’s awesome to see more of the stores you see in other malls in this mall, too.’”

Buckle corporate recruiter Denton Ollive worked on the process of opening the Buckle store from the beginning and is currently the store manager.

He said Buckle has a strong following with its customers, but the mall is also gaining more customers by having visitors from the area that it wasn’t seeing before.

“People are seeing a newer, different Golden Triangle Mall,” Ollive said.

Great American Cookies and Pro Image are still being worked on and will open in December, but Charlotte Russe is complete and will open today, Golden Triangle Mall director of marketing Carrie Carter said.

She said the openings have been going according to plan. The mall worked with corporate offices of the new retailers and had set deadlines for each store opening. Carter said the work is never done and more developments are sure to come.

“In a mall setting it is constantly changing. There will be new retailers, restaurants and tenants next year,” Carter said of the future plans. “There will be some exciting changes in 2014 just like there was this year.”

Carter said although there is a large amount of work being done in the mall it will have no effect on holiday shoppers.

The general construction has been completed, so there is no work being done out in the common areas. Current construction is limited to the interior of the new stores, and shoppers will not be affected.

Welcomed and escorted by UNT cheerleaders, Santa Claus will visit the mall tomorrow.

There are also several promotions to encourage holiday shoppers. One sponsorship, which begins on Nov. 29, offers a free $20 Buckle or Barnes and Noble gift card to customers who spend $100 or more in one day at the Mall.
