Although inclement weather delayed many UNT events, Greek Week still went on as scheduled. The week’s events just barely escaped the icy conditions’ effect on Denton. Only the award ceremony was rescheduled for March 26.

During Greek Week, which is organized by the Greek Programming Board, teams of sororities and fraternities compete in games and service events that coordinate with a general theme. This year’s theme was movie series, such as “Jurassic Park,” “The Godfather” and “Toy Story.”

“We wanted a diversified theme where each team was very different,” said Jackson Savarese, director of interfraternal programming for the Greek programming board. “We wanted to also try to appeal more to the male participants in Greek life to raise the participation.”

The week’s events also included a fundraiser night, which raises money for the Greek Life scholarship fund. This year’s Greek Week fundraiser collaborated with UNT’s Eaglethon, a year-long fundraising program that ends with the main event, a six-hour long dance and activities to celebrate those helped by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals each year.

“I really enjoyed that Eaglethon was added as part of [this year’s] Greek Week,”  communications senior and Sigma Lambda Gamma member Sydnee Prince said.

The fundraiser included an event at El Guapos restaurant, where a portion of the sales were included in the scholarship fund.

“With the collaboration of [Greek] students involved, over $16,000 was raised,” said Vanessa Garcia, executive director of the Greek Programming Broad.
