Green edges out White in swimming and diving competition
After placing second in a home tournament last week, the North Texas swimming and diving team hosted its annual Green and White meet Saturday. The meet came down to the wire, but the Green team was able to walk away with a win after finishing the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.87.
The White team wasn’t far behind at 1:40.15, but the difference was enough to push the Green squad to an overall victory.
“We use the Green and White Meet as a stepping stone to better prepare us as we go into our dual-meet portion of the season,” head coach Brittany Roth said. “This was really the first time we were able to shake off the rust and put together full events, where as the past couple of weeks it’s been more about exhibition.”
In the diving portion of the meet, freshman Meghan Miller led the way for the White team finishing with a 211.20 in the 1 meter dive and a 222.83 in the 3 meter competition.
The White team continued its early control of the meet in the swimming portion, as sophomore Jowita Sienczyk finished with a meet-high 22 points.
But while the White team had the leaders of the pack in both diving and swimming events, the Green team wasn’t far behind and was able to make its move late in the competition.
The Green team was led by senior Isabelle Morris, who earned time of 53.73 in the 100 freestyle, as well as freshman Leigh Faires McGee, who finished first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:50.54. McGee beat the nearest competitor by a full 20 seconds.
