Sophomore infielder Lacy Gregory was coming off of an impressive freshman season where she was put on Conference USA’s freshman team. She begins the season with the best batting average of any returning Mean Green player. As a result, she was rewarded with a preseason All-Conference selection, the lone North Texas player.

Heading into the first week, Gregory had high expectations to live up to, and, despite the team dropping two of three games, Gregory lived up to the individual expectations.

After combining for a team-high 12 RBIs on 7-of-10 hitting, in softball’s opening weekend, Gregory was rewarded with Conference USA player of the week.

It is the first time that Gregory has received the honor.

Gregory finished her week with two home runs, two doubles, a .727 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of 1.500.

The Kingswood, Texas native had a record-setting eight RBIs in the season opening loss to Louisiana Monroe. She accomplished that by going 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and a double.

Her 11 total bases were a single game school record, and she also managed to tie the record for hits (4) and home runs (2) in a game.

In the Mean Green’s lone win of the weekend against the University of Tennessee at Martin, Gregory had two RBI singles.

Despite the losses, Gregory’s performance gives head coach Tracey Kee a reliable weapon in the heart of her lineup. Gregory could continue to break records as the season continues, especially in this early part of the season. As the rest of the team continues to settle in, Gregory picked up right where she left off.

Gregory will look to build on her impressive performances as the Mean Green start off their weekend competing in the Elon Softball Classic starting at 11:15 a.m. Friday morning in Elon, North Carolina.
