The Make a Difference Day coordinators have had difficulty in assigning organizations to projects for November and finding new organizations and students to join.

Tricia Rodriguez, a service coordinator of the Center for Leadership and Service, said the coordinators sent out an email to some organizations inviting participation, but did not send an email to all of the student body.

“Because November is pretty heavy for students, a lot of times not all of them can do this,” Rodriguez said. “It is something we have to have a lot of planning for.”

The situation makes it difficult to allow new organizations to join, with scheduling conflicts like busy class loads and the move to the University Union underway. Regardless, Rodriquez said they would not like to limit volunteers, whether a lone student or an organization.

Some of the projects include Keep Lewisville Beautiful and work at community gardens and Goodwill.

“We will do our best always to find more projects,” she said. “We have a lot of really wonderful partners that will stretch their own imaginations and figure out how we can create projects.”

Students who would like to volunteer can contact the Center for Leadership and Service.
