North Texas women’s basketball has gone through what can be described as a coaching carousel in recent years. Since 2011, three new head basketball coaches have been hired.

North Texas is looking to end the carousel with the hiring of a new women’s head basketball coach in 2015.

Here’s a quick read on the salaries of the three most recent head coaches.

[row][third_paragraph] [df-subtitle]Jalie Mitchell: four-year $591,667 (2015)[/df-subtitle] Mitchell spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Texas before announcing the return to her alma mater. Mitchell played for North Texas from 1999-2002, where she left as the team’s all-time leading scorer with 1,764 points.

[/third_paragraph][third_paragraph] [df-subtitle]Mike Petersen: five-year $994,614 (2012)[/df-subtitle]

Petersen joined North Texas after previously being the head coach at Wake Forest. Petersen was let go after his third season coaching the team. The Mean Green went 5-24 in their final season under Petersen. Petersen and UNT mutually parted ways, leading to the return of Mitchell.

[/third_paragraph][third_paragraph] [df-subtitle]Karen Aston: five-year $675,936 (2011)[/df-subtitle]

Aston was hired to be the sixth head basketball coach of the North Texas women’s basketball team. She took over a team that had gone 5-25 the previous season, and more than tripled the win total with a 15-16 record in the 2011-12 season. Aston left for the head coaching job at the University of Texas after just one season at North Texas.
