As students anxiously wait for finals week, there is a resource that can help them feel better and more prepared for the often-stressful week of exams.

On 11 a.m. on Dec. 5 in Sage Hall 315, the Learning Center will host a free workshop on time management.

Since the main focus of the workshop will be teaching students how to manage their time to prepare for finals, students will get help on preparing for exams, essays and final projects, as well as learn about what motivates them.

Even though finals are next week, it is not too late for students to learn time management skills.

Coordinator for academic success programs Tara Petty said the end of the semester is probably the most important time for students to learn the importance of time management.

“Many things pile up during finals weeks,” Petty said. “There are lots of tests and projects that are due. Having good time management during finals week is key.”

Petty also said students who attended past workshops have told the Learning Center how helpful the workshops were in preparation for finals.

“I really love when students have ‘ah-ha’ moments, and they have figured something out that works for them,” Petty said. “It is really rewarding to see students grow.”

Students who attend the workshop can also apply the skills that they learn in the workshop for next semester.

“[Time management] is important because our own time management is a conscious decision we make every day, not just at the beginning of each semester,” said Adriana Slaughter, graduate assistant for academic success programs. “If you struggled with managing your time this semester, this workshop would be a good way to get a head start on good time management next semester.”

The Learning Center encourages students to attend several time management workshops, which are offered throughout each semester.

“Students would really benefit coming to a session in the first month or two of the semester, so that they can utilize what they learn throughout the semester,” coordinator of supplemental instruction Aisha Marshall said.
