Letter to the Editor: government’s role to represent its people

After living in several states and three foreign countries, I moved to Denton eight years ago. I soon became involved as a citizen activist leader, attending City Council meetings and pursuing solutions to problems citizens were having with many issues at City Hall. Living in so many places gave me both perspective and experience working with varied interests in crafting solutions.

I have worked in a leadership role with many dedicated Denton citizens on a variety of successful ventures, like placing term limits on the Denton City Council, modifying the Denton property tax structure, modifying inspiration development, a 3,300 acre master-planned community slated for construction in southwest Denton, expanding the UNT Emeritus College program and opposing the proposed Denton Convention Center and accompanying $30 million bond debt.

My goals as a member of City Council include preserving and protecting our historic neighborhoods and downtown Square, prioritizing inclusion of neighborhoods in the decision-making process (especially when those decisions directly impact residents’ quality of life,) working for transparency and open government, improving municipal fiscal responsibility, pursuing smart growth by encouraging economic decisions that encourage job creation and neighborhood compatibility and seeking solutions to traffic and mobility issues.
