Crowds of music lovers decked out in ponchos and rain boots flocked to see indie rock band Best Coast at 35 Denton on Saturday night.

The two-person group consists of front woman Bethany Cosentino and instrumentalist Bobb Bruno. The members hail from Los Angeles, Calif.
Cosentino’s mellow voice and the band’s heavy uses of electric guitars give Best Coast a surf rock sound straight from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.

The group played a 45-minute set of songs from its debut album “Crazy for You,” released in 2010. Best Coast also played songs from its upcoming album, “The Only Place,” which will be released in May.

Despite the cold and rainy weather, the crowd of onlookers channeled the group’s sunny vibes by dancing and bobbing their heads to the band’s upbeat songs such as “Boyfriend,” which chronicles the tale of a woman stuck in the friend zone.

Notably missing from the band’s lineup was its popular song “Our Deal.” Actress Drew Barrymore directed the song’s music video, which features actresses Miranda Cosgrove and Chloë Moretz.

After the show the band tweeted, “Thank you for sticking it out in the rain, Denton! So fun.”

Based on the crowd’s enthusiastic cheering, it is safe to say the feeling was mutual.

Best Coast will now make its way to Austin, where it will play four shows at the South by Southwest music festival next weekend.
